Illegal immigrants are saying thanks but no thanks to life in America.
For the second year in a row, the number of illegal immigrants living in America has decreased, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
In January 2007, there were 11.8 million illegal immigrants in the country. In 2008, that number dropped to 11.6 million.
By January 2009, the number had fallen 7 percent, down to 10.8 million, according to DHS.
California, which has the largest number of illegal immigrants, is now at 2.6 million, AFP reported.
DHS noted that the decline has coincided with the economic downturn in the U.S., the Associated Press reported. Some experts also credit tougher border enforcement for the drop.
