At first, things didn’t look good for an injured seagull brought into a Riverside County veterinary clinic on Friday by a good Samaritan after it was discovered tangled up in some fishing line, but things are looking up.
A lure hung from its body, and to make matters worse, the seagull was punctured by two hooks: one in its wings, and the other was deeply embedded in its leg, the Riverside County Department of Animal Services said in a statement.
But doctors from the veterinary clinic at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus came to the rescue — Dr. Brad Brunskill, with the help of two veterinary technicians, was able to safely extract the hooks from the seagull.
Now, the seagull will rehabilitate at a San Pedro-based bird rescue organization and will hopefully be released into the wild in the future.
