Two banners towed by planes soared over Dodger Stadium Thursday during batting practice before LA took on the defending World Series champs.

One read, "SF Giants 2010 Champs Beat LA." Another directed an insult at the Dodgers: "Dodgers still suck -- From SF Champs Fans."

Dodger supporters at LATaco.com struck back with a banner that read, "LA 5, SF 1 Let's Go Dodgers" and directed the same insult at the Giants. From LA Taco: "While some say it’s petty to respond to our enemies to the North, we just couldn’t sit back and let the Giants fans have the last word on Opening Day in our house."

The B-2 bomber that roared over the stadium before the first pitch did not tow a banner.

In the end, it was an errant throw from Giants catcher Buster Posey that helped the Dodgers beat their rivals on opening day. Matt Kemp scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error by Posey in the sixth.

Dodger Clayton Kershaw struck out nine in seven innings in the 2-1 victory. Kershaw allowed four hits and walked one.

The game included some late drama, courtesy of a Giants homer in the ninth off Jonathan Broxton. Broxton.

The game also was the managerial debut of former Yankee Don Mattingly. He became the first rookie manager to beat the defending World Series champions on opening day since Lou Piniella debuted with the Yankees on April 8, 1986.
