A 23-year-old high school coach is on unpaid leave after his arrest for alleged lewd acts with two 15-year-old girls, police and school officials said Monday.
Jonathan Adam Roldan was a girls' junior varsity volleyball coach and campus aide at Esteban Torres High School in East Los Angeles. He was arrested Dec. 13 on suspicion of having sex with a 15-year-old female student and for allegedly touching a second 15-year-old female student inappropriately, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The first alleged victim reported what happened to her school the day Roldan was arrested, authorities said. The school alerted the Sheriff’s Department.
Parents and guardians with students at the school were notified over the weekend of Roldan’s arrest, the Los Angeles Unified School District said in a statement. A letter about the arrest went home with students Monday.
“The Los Angeles Unified School District will place him on unpaid compulsory leave when he’s formally charged, pending resolution of the criminal matter," the district said in the statement. "If convicted, he will be dismissed. Superintendent John Deasy is recommending moving ahead with the dismissal process at the earliest opportunity."
Roldan is being held in jail on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
Investigators believe they may be other possible victims or witnesses, and are urging anyone with information to call Sgt. Richard Ruiz at 877-710-5273 or emailing SpecialVictims@lasd.org
