A Bonita High School student made threats against the school via social media posts and was subsequently admitted to a mental health facility for treatment, police announced Thursday.
Police were notified about the threats after school hours on Wednesday, according to the La Verne Police Department, which reported that the "designated school resource officer immediately initiated an investigation, which included contacting the author of the threats as well as searching the student's residence."
"Based upon those actions, a determination was made that the responsible party did not have the means nor the intention to carry out the threat," police said. "Additionally, the responsible party was found to be suffering from a mental illness and was subsequently admitted to (a) mental health facility for further assessment."
Information was not released regarding the student's identity or gender.
"Based upon this collaborative effort with Bonita High School, as well as the cooperation with the responsible individual's parents, (the) La Verne Police Department no longer feels that a threat exists to the students or staff at Bonita High School," police said.
