Demonstrations were held across Southern California for sixth day Monday, as looting took place in Van Nuys and business owners witnessed another night of mayhem.
Other protests occurring in response to the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police took place in Long Beach, Hollywood, downtown LA and Riverside Monday evening.

Update 5:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 2: Hundreds of people were under arrest, most for breaking curfew, by early Monday morning in Hollywood. At times, groups of vandals broke off from the protest. Some residents formed barricades using trash bins and other items to block off their streets.
Update 9:10 p.m.
More than 80 people were detained in the Hollywood area after police and sheriff's deputies began taking action after the curfew began.

Riverside Protest Ends in Arrests
At least six people were detained at the end of a large protest in downtown Riverside. Sheriff's deputies dispersed the crowd at Orange and 10th streets around 7 p.m.
More than 4,000 people attended the protest during the day, in a demonstration that turned confrontational.

Mass Arrests in Hollywood
As protesters in Hollywood continued to march after the curfew went into effect, police began to block off and isolate groups of demonstrators not adhering to the 6 p.m. curfew. Newschopper4 Bravo observed about 50 protesters being detained for apparent curfew violations.

Peaceful Hollywood Protest Turns Unruly After Curfew
Windows at Walgreens in Hollywood were smashed as police blocks away were making arrests as a city-imposed curfew was put into place before sunset.
A large group of demonstrators gathered at North Lexington and Highland avenues in Hollywood and police were making their way to that location.

Business Owners in Long Beach Guard Their Stores
City workers boarded up storefronts as National Guard troops stood watch during curfew on Pine Avenue in downtown Long Beach on Monday night.
Tom West, the co-owner of Coffee & Tea, was the only one left on a virtual ghost town street Monday evening. He said he was preparing to donate hamburgers to the National Guard burgers and would stay open for those who rely on them for meals, a number of them homeless, he said.

Demonstrations Take Place in Hollywood, West Hollywood, Downtown
Protesters, some chanting and carrying signs marched on Hollywood
Boulevard. The protests were peaceful as of Monday evening. The group marched to Sunset Boulevard.
In downtown Los Angeles, meanwhile, hundreds of protesters gathered in front of Los Angeles City Hall, briefly marching to LAPD headquarters before returning to City Hall.
Hundreds of people gathered peacefully outside the Laugh Factory comedy club, where the marquee had a photo of Floyd. At that demonstration, LAPD Cmdr. Cory Palka spoke to the crowd and dropped to one knee in a sign of solidarity, which cheered in response.

Protesters Block Stretch of 405 Freeway
A large group of protesters temporarily blocked a stretch of the 405 Freeway before police swept them off Monday afternoon. The protesters blocked lanes of traffic on the northbound lanes at Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood. All but one lane of traffic was briefly blocked.
At one point two people could be seen standing on the median of the freeway, waving at passing vehicles. One of the people jumped off the median in front of a big rig that slowly weaved around the protesters.
As the protesters gathered on the freeway, looters smashed into stores along Van Nuys Boulevard. Police clad in riot gear chased some of the looters away from a pharmacy at one point. One officer could be seen swinging a baton and trying to grab a looter by the arm, but the person got away.
Elsewhere, business owners braced for another night of looting. In Long Beach, a business owner stood out front of a coffee shop. In Riverside, some 2,500 demonstrators converged downtown, with demonstrators clogging up much of a roadway. Businesses there were also boarded up for security purposes. So far the demonstration is peaceful.
