After a decade on the job, the public information director for the LAPD has stepped down, according to a statement released by the department Friday afternoon.
Mary Grady was hired by the department in 2001 as a public information officer and promoted to the newly created director position a year later, according to the LAPD website.
A terse statement issued by the department on Friday said: "We thank Mary Grady for her past years of service to the Los Angeles Police Department and wish her well in her future endeavors."
As of Saturday the post will be filled by Lt. Andy Neiman, as acting commanding officer of the Public Information Office "as a result of changes within the organization," the e-mail news release stated.
Grady's responsibilities included advising management on the effects of LAPD policies and procedures with the public, developing a long-term strategy for partnership with the media, and promoting the LAPD while navigating media and community concerns, accorting to the site.
