Dog Shot, Killed After Biting Police Officer

The dog bit an officer on the foot before multiple rounds were fired

A dog was shot and killed by police officers involved in a foot chase Friday evening, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shooting happened shortly before 6 p.m. in the 1700 block of 24th Street in the West Adams area, LAPD spokesman Gregory Baek said.

Two gang officers were on patrol in the neighborhood when they spotted a parolee who had a felony warrant, said Capt. Paul Snell, commanding officer of the LAPD Southwest station.

When the man saw the officers, he jetted into a backyard and the officers quickly followed on foot.

Once in the yard, a pit bull bit one of the officers on the foot, and the officer fired at the dog, Snell said. A witness said the dog was shot three or four times.

A woman who said she was the dog's owner was inside of her house when she heard several shots. She was later told by police that her dog was dead.

The man who was being chased is her nephew, she said, who lives at the same house as the dog.
