Umbrella Alert: Rainy Weekend on Tap for SoCal

Enjoy the sunshine while you can. Rain is on the way, just in time for the weekend.

Here’s a look at today’s weather forecast.

Rain currently beating down on Northern California is expected to make its way down the coast, bringing showers to the Southland just in time for the weekend.

Thursday will mark SoCal's last glimpse of sunshine for a few days.

"…an area of low-pressure sitting just off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, this will continue to drag in all of this moisture and increase the cloud coverage here in the Southland. We're going to hold off on seeing any rain until Saturday," NBC4 Meteorologist Elita Loresca said.

Between Friday night and Monday morning, between 1/2 inch and 1 1/2 inches of rain could fall on Southern California.

Adding to the wet weather, high-wind watches will be effect for San Bernardino and Riverside counties for most of Saturday.

The snowline is estimated at about 4,000 feet with between 6-12 inches of snow expected.

A winter storm watch for San Bernardino County was issued for most of Saturday above 4,000 feet, while Riverside County's winter storm watch goes from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning above 4,000 feet.

Caltrans issued a commuter alert for the Inland Empire, warning drivers to be prepared for a possible emergency. Be sure to bring extra food, water, tire chains and a change of clothes, according to Caltrans. A full list of recommendations is available here (PDF).

The Southern California sunshine is expected to return Tuesday.
