Man Accused of Stabbing Grandmother While She Slept

The attack happened on Sunday in the 2800 block of West Rialto Avenue.

A 24-year-old Rialto man faces attempted murder charges in connection with the stabbings of his grandmother while she slept and his mother who tried to save her in an apparently unprovoked attack, police said.

Assael Flores is accused of stabbing his 51-year-old mother and his 85-year-old grandmother on Sunday in the 2800 block of West Rialto Avenue, according to the San Bernardino Police Department.

The grandmother was hospitalized and was expected to survive. The suspect's mother was not seriously hurt.

Flores was being held at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on charges of attempted murder and carrying a concealed knife, according to online jail records.
