Details about the man's identity were not immediately available.
The attacker fled before officers arrived, police said.
The stabbing occurred six days after stabbings at the Metro Hollywood/Western station and aboard a train bound for the Westlake/MacArthur Park station. Metro is not planning to implement any additional safety measures in response to the recent stabbings, Metro spokesman Patrick Chandler told the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
"We do have a lot of layers of security on our system," said LA metro spokesperson Patrick Chandler. "We're moving nearly 800,000 riders a day, and for the most part people are able to get to where they need to go.
"The other part of that is we have law enforcement in play. We have a number of other layers in play to ensure that people are basically able to have a decent experience when riding."
Metro released the following statement.
"Metro has a zero tolerance for violence on the Metro System and is already working closely with our law enforcement partners to investigate this terrible incident and develop additional safety measures. If you have any information about this crime, please call the LBPD’s 24-Hour Anonymous Tip Line at 1-564-570-6257, 24-7. If you see something, say something. Please call 888.950.SAFE (7233) or 911.
