Man Injured in Downey Shooting While Driving

Suspect exited car, shot victim at an intersection

A man was wounded when he was shot in his car when he stopped at an intersection in Downey Friday night, police said.

Around 11 p.m., officers responded to a man suffering from a gunshot wound at Firestone Boulevard and La Reina Avenue. Police found the victim behind his car, according to Downey Police Department.

Witnesses said the man stopped at the intersection and another car pulled up next to the victim's vehicle. The suspected gunman exited the passenger side of the car and began firing at the suspect, police said.

The suspect's vehicle fled from the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim's condition was unknown.

Police said there may be more witnesses because the intersection where the shooting occurred is very busy.
