Good News for Victim's of Alleged Vehicle Theft Ring

Police recover hundreds of stolen items

The Los Angeles Police Department has good news for the victims of an alleged motor vehicle theft ring.

You may be able to get your stuff back.

On Wednesday, the LAPD announced the arrest of cousins Alejandro Torres and Jesse Torres. The 22-years-olds are accused of breaking into more than 100 cars in the Koreatown, mid-Wilshire and Hollywood areas since February.

Police say the suspects allegedly stole hundreds of items, including cell phones, iPods, jewelry, cameras and sunglasses.

Most car break-in burglars work so fast, police never catches them; but with a rise in break-ins lately, the Olympic Division blanketed the area with flyers, asking residents for help catching those responsible. This past weekend, one alert resident spotted the suspects at an apartment building, and called the cops.

"This valuable citizen made a call to us, and within seconds, we surrounded the apartment complex and took two people into custody," said LAPD Capt. Matt Blake.

The LAPD would like to return the stolen property to its rightful owners. If your car has been broken into in the Koreatown, mid-Wilshire and Hollywood areas -- especially in a parking structure -- you can get information on how to retrieve stolen items by visiting the Olympic Division's website.

And the cops have advice for you on how to avoid becoming a victim: When parking your car on the street or in a parking structure, don't leave valuables of any kind in your vehicle. Thieves will often scope out cars, looking for stuff on car seats or on the floor, before smashing your windows.
