New ‘Dark Arts' Projections to Eerie-Up Wizarding World

The large-scale experience will shimmer across the side of Hogwarts this spring.

What to Know

  • "Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle"
  • The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood
  • April 13-28 and May 25-27, 2019

Springtime? It's a sweet time of year that's synonymous with light.

Not only does Daylight Saving Time arrive just before the equinox, giving us those desired "longer days," but even our life-forward outlooks seem to take on an extra ebullience, a feeling bolstered by the extra sunshine.

But things are about to get far darker at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, at Universal Studios Hollywood, over the very days, or rather nights, when we've got lightness on our minds.

For "Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle," a brand-new projection experience, will shimmer with sorcery and a touch of spookiness over several spring evenings.

Those evenings? Mark them down in your favorite book of magic or write them somewhere in disappearing/reappearing ink: April 13 through 28, 2019, and again from May 25 through 27.

The "powerful, original, and breathtaking projection experience" is also set to shimmer at Universal Orlando Resort later in 2019, but Hollywood is up first.

What can fans expect at "Dark Arts," which is being hailed as a "departure" from previous projection shows like "The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle"?

Oh yeah, things'll get rather more dramatic, confirms the theme park, with "intense tones and drama" dancing deviously across the imposing structure.

That means there shall be cameos, rendered in dark light, from various beasties and other eerie characters from the Potterverse. For sure, the Dementors will stop by, and those dastardly Death Eaters?

They wouldn't dare miss this party.

Call it a real good-meets-evil showdown, as imagined through large-scale image, light, and sternum-quaking sound.

How to behold this different take on a form that's proven beyond popular for Wizarding World? By purchasing a ticket to Universal Studios Hollywood, during the "Dark Arts" dates.

Of course, that ticket won't be the only thing required. A little bravery on your part, and some courage, too, is always a good thing when Dementors and Death Eaters are in the vicinity, even during some of the lightest and brightest weeks of the year.
