One person was killed after he was stabbed in the stomach and run over by a car in Sylmar Tuesday night. Two people in the vehicle were injured, and they will be arrested, authorities said.
Paramedics and police were called at 8:11 p.m. to 13244 Bradley Ave., one block east of Roxford Street, said Cecil Manresa of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
One person had to be freed from the car. One person was in critical condition early Wednesday.
By early Wednesday morning, a candle marked the spot of the crash. It was surrounded by crumbled brick from a mailbox that was also damaged. Someone had even taken the bricks and shaped a cross above the mailbox.
Jesus Martinez said it was his father who was killed. He said he and his brother, who was driving the SUV, had an argument with their dad over a broken door in their home. Martinez said their dad had threatened to kick them out of the house.
He said he doesn't know what led his brother to get into the vehicle, but points out that his brother is a paraplegic and had to hoist himself out of his wheelchair to get into the driver's seat.
Neighbors said it was a gruesome scene as they saw a group of people huddled over the 63-year-old victim.
LAPD officials said they were initially called to the scene for a stabbing, the 63-year-old-man being the victim. When they arrived, they said his 20-something son had pinned him against the mailbox where he died. The son and a passenger in the vehicle were both taken to the hospital with critical injuries and are in LAPD custody.
