The two other men fled the scene. It is believed another one of them might have been injured during the incident, due to a trail of blood left behind, police said. A car found at the scene was believed to have been used during the attempted robbery.
Law enforcement said the deceased had two bullet wounds and had the homeowner's possessions on hand. Detectives are not releasing that individual's identity pending notification to his family.
The homeowner, a grandmother and a child were inside the home, according to police. Authorities added the homeowner was interviewed at Devonshire Community Police Station and released.
