Over 200 SoCal Jobs Available at Home Depot Hiring Event

A Home Depot hiring event in Los Angeles drew over a thousand applicants looking for part time and seasonal jobs. Toni Guinyard reports live for NBC4 News at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Home Depot is offering 225 part-time and seasonal jobs in the greater Los Angeles area at a hiring event Friday.

Hundreds of people stood in a line that wrapped around the corner where the event was being held Friday morning. The event is part of a larger effort to fill more than 80,000 spring positions nationwide, because spring is the company's busiest season.

About 600 applicants were expected at the Los Angeles hiring event, but about 1,500 had shown up by 11 a.m. The turnout was so great, the company said they were going to start turning away people who were not already in line. Everyone who was already in line was guaranteed an interview.

"Opportunities include sales and cashier positions across all departments," a statement from company read. At Friday's event, on-site interviews were conducted for "permanent part-time and seasonal jobs," and people were expected to be hired on the spot, Home Depot confirmed.

Home Depot planned to offer over 200 part time and seasonal jobs at a hiring event Friday. Toni Guinyard reports live for Today in LA on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Hourly pay will depend on the job and the applicant's experience, said Matthew Harrigan of Home Depot.

Other Home Depot locations in Southern California also have job openings, but those positions were not included in the Los Angeles event Friday, Harrigan said.

The hiring event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at 3695 Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles. To find available jobs in your area for this spring, visit the Home Depot careers website.
