Police Try to Flush Out Suspect in Bathroom Stand-Off

17 year-old faces deportation

A 17-year-old boy facing deportation for criminal offenses ran from a federal immigration agent Wednesday and holed up in the bathroom of a restaurant, a police sergeant said.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent attempted to arrest the teen -- who had been deported to Mexico before because of drug and weapon offenses -- about 9:30 a.m. at Tacos Garcia in Orange, said Sgt. Dan Adams of the Orange Police Department.

The suspect threw a metal object at the agent, who was not hit, and then locked himself in a bathroom, Adams said. The agent called local police.

"We've been attempting to get him to come outside via the phone and he's refusing," Adams said about two hours into the standoff.

"We've been in contact. He knows we're out here and knows to come out," Adams said.

He said the boy's mother, who reportedly owns the restaurant where her son works, eventually came outside and was detained.
