Family Mourns Victims of Fiery San Bernardino Rollover Car Crash

Family members gathered Friday to mourn the loss Germany Willis, one of four people who died Thursday night after a single-car crash in San Bernardino.

"She was a wonderful sister," Willis' sister Erica told NBC4 before breaking down in tears.

Willis, the driver of a tan Toyota Camry, along with 36-year-old Kristy Medina, 24-year-old Joy Doss and another woman, died after the vehicle crashed through a metal guardrail, fell 50 feet and burst into flames.

The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. near East Fifth Street east of Cooley Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Family members gathered at the crash site to set up a memorial and recite prayers.

"She didn't harm nobody, nothing. I don't even know why this happened to her like this," Willis' brother Ernest Ballou said.

According to officials, the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed.

"There was a vehicle directly in front of that particular vehicle that was at the high rate of speed, it veered to the left in an attempt to get around that particular vehicle but subsequently lost control," CHP officer Andrew Primeaux said.

The car drove off the road, crashed through a metal guardrail, fell 50 feet and landed in a flood channel, officials said.

Two of the four passengers in the car were ejected and the remaining two were in the car when it burst into flames, Primeaux said.

A witness named Paul said he ran to the flood channel and could hear screaming coming from the burning wreckage.

"It's a 20 foot embankment, you know what I mean. There was nothing we can do," Paul said.

All four passengers died as a result of the crash. Three were pronounced dead at the scene. One was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and died there.

The San Bernardino Coroner's Office has not yet identified one of the victims. Investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
