One person is dead and an officer was shot Tuesday evening in north Long Beach, Mayor Rex Richardson said.
The shooting was reported sometime before 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and 52nd Street. As a result of the investigation, Atlantic Avenue has been shut down from 52nd Street to Market Street.
Details on what led up to the shooting are unclear. Authorities did not specify how the other person died and why officers were originally called to the scene. Richardson described the individual as a suspect, though.
"Thankfully, the officer is in stable condition with minor injuries, is in good spirits, and is expected to make a full recovery," Richardson said in a social media post.
