A skydiver fell to his death on Saturday after a maneuver in the air above Lake Elsinore, officials said.
Ken Oka, 62, of Mira Loma, was part of a group of skydivers who were attempting a multiple-person maneuver when he became entangled in a parachute and was unable to free himself.
He landed in the backyard of a residence in the 19000 block of Sweetwood Lane in the city of Lake Elsinore. He died after 3 p.m. at a hospital, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said.
Alma Lopez told Lake Elsinore-Wildomar Patch that up to six skydivers landed in the neighborhood, one on a rooftop and another in her front yard.
"He was hysterical," she said of the unidentified man who landed on her property, according to Patch. "He wanted to see his friend."
Investigations into the death were launched by the Lake Elsinore Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration, which looks into whether the parachutes were properly packed by the appropriate person.
