Pursuit Ends in Officer-Involved Shooting in Maywood

A driver was shot and wounded by police following a brief pursuit Tuesday in Maywood.

Police said a man driving a Lexus SUV led authorities on a chase before turning the vehicle on the officers. 

Officers shot at the driver until the driver crashed his vehicle into a gate near Maywood Avenue and 54th Street, according to the Huntington Park Police Department.

The pursuit lasted about 10 minutes and started in the Huntington Park area.

The driver was apparently carrying a handgun during the pursuit, which was later found at the scene of the crash.

NewsChopper4 was overhead as the driver was rolled out on a gurney. The condition of the driver was unknown.

No officers were injured.

The investigation was being handled by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Detectives said the driver, who officers attempted to pull over for a routine traffic stop, was recently released from prison under legislative bill AB109.
