Southbound Lanes of the 405 to Close Again

The work is part of the Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project which will add a 10-mile HOV lane

Call it Carmageddon, the mini-series.

As part of on-going improvements, all southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway will be closed after midnight Monday.

Crews will be working on a new bridge at Sunset Boulevard, according to Metro. The closure will begin at 12:01 a.m. and reopen around 5 a.m. on Tuesday. The bridge itself will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

"That’s a typical freeway closure for this project. This is a fairly standard practice now," said Dave Sotero, spokesman for Metro.

The northbound side of the freeway was closed for a time on Tuesday for the same project.

In July, workers demolished the south side of the Mulholland overpass on the 405 during a 53-hour freeway closure. While it was dubbed 'Carmageddon,'  contractor Kiewit Infrastructure West actually finished the project 17 hours early.

On Wednesday, Sepulveda Boulevard from Montana Avenue to Church Lane and Sunset Bridge will be closed, starting at 10 p.m. and continuing to 6 a.m. Thursday.

The work is part of the Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project which will add a 10-mile HOV lane on the northbound I-405 as well as upgrade existing overpasses, ramps, and sound walls.
