The airline is the most popular carrier at Burbank, with over 700 flights each week. Southwest will slash 82 weekly flights from its schedule, leaving 630 flights out of Bob Hope.
Flight cuts are expected to begin the first week of August, but the airline has not announced specifics just yet.
The cut represents a 6 percent reduction in the total number of flights from the airport. The hub is a popular starting point for quick trips out of the LA area, especially when it comes to Las Vegas. No word yet on which flights are being trimmed.
The airport says the flight reduction is normal for the slower fall flying season, but the flight cuts are a bit deeper than normal. Total passenger traffic at Bob Hope is down nearly 5% from last year.
