Successful Emergency Landing at LAX

A Philippine Airlines jumbo jet made a successful emergency landing at LAX. The jet had blown two tires on takeoff

A Philippine Airlines jumbo jet declared an emergency because of a possible blown tire, but the plane was able to land safely at Los Angeles International Airport.

The pilot initially descended to a low altitude so a police helicopter could inspect the tire's condition, then pulled up again and circled before landing.

The Boeing 747 then touched down smoothly around 9 p.m. Friday.

The aircraft idled on the runway as fire trucks and other ground crews surrounded it.

It turns out that two tires had blown.

An airport spokeswoman said 400 passengers and 20 crew members were aboard the plane.
