Sunset Getting Stripped

Sierra Drive to Harper Avenue will be upgraded

The famed stretch of Sunset Boulevard has not been re-paved since the 1930s but starting Monday, the city of West Hollywood will begin a re-pavement project.

The City's facelift will replace the old concrete roadway between Sierra Drive and Harper Avenue with rubberized asphalt. Crews will also replace one-third of the strip's sidewalks and make the existing sidewalks more pedestrian-friendly.

New trees will be planted to replace older Ficus which have torn up the sidewalks.

According to the LA Times, the tab for the 1.6 miles of the Strip will run about $5.4 million, including a little more than $1 million in federal stimulus money.
