This Isn't Your Father's Sunset Junction

Changes coming to Silver Lake music festival

Sunset Junction can no longer exist in its current format.

That's what the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council Governing Board unanimously voted for during its Thursday night meeting.

Over the years, the annual neighborhood festival has ballooned from street fair to full-blown music extravaganza. On Thursday night, Silver Lake residents and merchants told the Board that organizers are not working closely enough with the community. They claim the poor relationship has hurt business and created parking and traffic problems.

Junction organizer Michael McKinley shot back, saying the festival revenue goes back to the community.

Even so, the Board agreed with residents, and changes are coming to the summertime party, LA Weekly reported:

"Ultimately, the Board voted unanimously in favor of a motion stating that it will 'oppose the Sunset Junction Street Festival in its current format.' What this means for the future of the popular festival is still unknown."

More meetings are scheduled between festival organizers and the council, LA Weekly reported.

The festival is set for Aug. 22-23.
