Zac Sunderland and his pals were arrested Thursday night after a rowdy beer drinking party Thousand Oaks backyard became to out of control, according to police.
"Zachary was arrested, he and some juveniles were drinking alcohol outside in the backyard of a vacant residence on Calle Riscoso that they had earlier gained entry into, according to a police statement.
"When deputies approached, they told Zachary to stop. Instead, he (Zachary) lowered his shoulder, charged at a deputy and had to be physically subdued as he was apparently trying to escape from the yard--no injuries were reported, but Sunderland's arm contacted the deputy's shoulder as he charged at him. (That is where resisting charge stems from.)
"The arrested juveniles (two 17 year old boys and a 15 year old boy) were arrested for curfew and illegal entry. The contributing to the delinquency charge stems from the fact that evidence at the scene indicated Sunderland was the one who provided alcohol for the three cited juveniles and possibly other juveniles who had left prior to the deputies arrival. There were a few other young people present at the residence at one point or another, but I have no further details," the release stated.
Sunderland, 18, was booked into East County Jail at 2:38 am Friday and released at 9:56 am. He was released on a misdemeanor promise to appear. His next court date is 9-14-2010 Simi Court, Room 1.
Sunderland maneuvered his way around sea faring pirates in 2009 and into the history books when he became the youngest person to sail solo around the world. A British sailor beat that record the following month, but he remains the first person under 18 to make the voyage alone.
