Monday Night Crash on Sixth Street Viaduct Prompts Bridge Closure

Witnesses said the crash was the result of a street takeover in the area.

NBC Universal, Inc.

Both directions on the Sixth Street bridge were shut down following a crash late Monday night -- the first car crash since the bridge’s reopening.

Witnesses said the crash was the result of a street takeover in the area.

Newschopper4 was over the scene where two vehicles could be seen, surrounded by LAPD patrol cars.

Video posted to social media showed one of those cars, a white Dodge Challenger, losing control and slamming into a Honda going the other direction.

What appeared to be the first crash on the newly constructed Sixth Street Bridge has stopped traffic. As seen on air on July 18, 2022.

A crowd of people walking along the Sixth Street bridge gathered around to look at the scene of the crash.

This street takeover followed another that prompted the closure of the bridge Sunday night.
