Mercedes-Benz SUV Lands on Its Roof After Crashing Off Third Level of Parking Structure

The driver was trapped in the vehicle and freed by Los Angeles firefighters.

The driver of a Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV that crashed through the third level of a parking structure in North Hollywood Thursday night was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. in the 5400 block of Tujunga Avenue and the driver was trapped in the upside-down vehicle and freed by Los Angeles firefighters. NewsChopper4 Alpha overhead at the scene showed a gaping hole in the parking structure and the boxy and solidly built SUV upside down on Tujunga Avenue. 

According to Los Angeles Police Department, the driver as the only person in the SUV and there was no DUI involved.

The driver told officers that something got stuck and made him accelerate, causing him to crash through the wall and off the third floor.

With a base price of about $125,000, the G-Class has the DNA of a rugged military vehicle.
