Wife-Murder Suspect Is Arrested In Hospital

A Lomita restaurateur suspected of killing his wife was arrested Monday, five days after jumping off an oceanfront cliff in Rancho Palos Verdes.

David Viens, 47, was under surveillance by detectives when he jumped from a cliff near the 31500 block of Palos Verdes Drive West about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, sheriff's Deputy Aura Sierra said.

Viens was arrested about 11 a.m. at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center where he had awakened from a coma on Friday, Steve Whitmore of the sheriff's department said.

Investigators have been unable to talk to Viens because he has a tube inserted in his throat, sheriff's Lt. Dave Coleman said.

His wife Dawn Viens had been missing since Oct. 18, 2009.

The case will be presented Tuesday to the District Attorney's Office, Whitmore said.

The arrest was first reported by the Daily Breeze.
