The shooting was reported just before 11 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of South Holly Avenue. The woman died at the scene.

The Hyundai SUV had bullet holes in the rear driver's side.

The victim's boyfriend was inside the SUV at the time of the shooting, investigators said.

Wilkins said she was asleep inside the home when she heard someone pounding on her door.

"They've been shooting fireworks around here a lot, so everybody in the neighborhood was thinking it was fireworks," Wilkins said. "Somebody was bamming on the door, 'Mama, mama, Beverly got shot.'"
