Man Fatally Shot in Confrontation With Parents

A 46-year-old man was fatally shot during a confrontation with his parents in their Riverside home, police said Monday.

Daniel Stewart of Riverside died about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 3500 block of Timothy Way, just off of San Diego Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Officer Ryan Railsback described Stewart as "estranged" from his family and said he arrived at their property about 8:30 p.m., triggering an argument during which he "attacked his elderly parents inside the house."

The couple were allegedly subjected to physical abuse, prompting "an adult male family member (to retrieve) a firearm" and shoot Stewart, Railsback said.

Paramedics arrived minutes later and pronounced Stewart dead at the scene. The parents, whose identities were not released, were detained for questioning, along with a teenager at the residence, the officer said.

The couple were transported to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of non- life-threatening injuries. No arrests were made, and detectives were coordinating with the Riverside County District Attorney's Office to complete their investigation, according to Railsback.
