A man was shot to death and another was wounded Saturday in an attack at an Irvine residence, authorities said.
Officers were called at about 5:45 a.m. to a residence on Bayleaf Lane, Irvine police Lt. Dave Klug said. They found a man outside the residence who said he was the victim of an assault and told officers another man was injured inside the residence, Klug said.
"Officers entered the residence on Bayleaf Lane and located a second adult male who sustained multiple gunshot wounds,'' he said.
Paramedics took both victims to hospitals where the gunshot victim was pronounced dead, Klug said. While not disclosing the nature of the other man's injuries, the lieutenant said they are not life-threatening.
"Investigators believe two male suspects met the victims at the Bayleaf Lane residence and fled in a vehicle after the shooting," Klug said.
"The reason for the meeting and the motive for the shooting are still under investigation."
The name of the gunshot victim was not released pending family notification of relatives.
