Man Shot by Deputies During Domestic Disturbance Call in Orange County

Witnesses told NBC4 that a man shot by deputies in Orange County Sunday night was in his 20s and a father of two young children. Charges were expected to be filed against him. Jane Yamamoto reports live for the NBC4 News at Noon on Monday, June 30, 2014.

Neighbors in a quiet Orange County community were shocked when a man was shot after allegedly confronting deputies during a domestic disturbance call Sunday night.

Deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. to reports of a domestic disturbance between a man and woman in the 100 block of Sansovino in Ladera Ranch, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

When authorities arrived, a deputy-involved shooting occurred. It was unclear what led to the shooting, but witnesses told NBC4 that the man who was shot was in his 20s and a father to two young children.

A neighbor living among the townhomes where the incident took place said the couple had lived in the area for a couple of years and had never appeared to have problems.

“I’ve seen them with a couple of kids, but I never saw them argue outside or anything like that,” said Ryan Tabije. “It’s very surprising.”

The man was taken to Mission Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No deputies were injured in the incident.

Authorities were expected to release the man's identity and any charges filed against him on Monday.
