The fan who was severely beaten in the Angel Stadium parking lot last week was identified on Monday as a former Los Angeles Police Department officer, Anaheim police said.
Neighbors identified the former officer as 43-year-old Alex Arredondo.
Arredondo's condition was upgraded from critical to serious condition Monday morning, Anaheim Police Lt. Bob Dunn said.
Three people attacked Arredondo and his relative in the parking lot around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, after the Angels lost to the Kansas City Royals, Anaheim police said.
"There's probably video somewhere that exists on someone's cellphone," Dunn said.
LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman said the offcer left the department in 2012.
There was no evidence to suggest fan rivalry or an argument inside the stadium, police said, adding that there were no apparent weapons used.

"There's no information to support that this began inside and then somehow spilled into the parking lot," Dunn said."
