Seven people have been detained in Belgium in connection with the terrorist attacks that left 129 dead and 352 wounded in Paris on Friday, a Belgian official told The Associated Press.
The official, who spoke to The Associated Press in Brussels by phone, also said two of the seven attackers who died in Paris on Friday night were French men living in Brussels. He said one of the French attackers was living in the St. Jans Molenbeek neighborhood, which is considered a focal point for religious extremism and fighters going to Syria.
The official said the seven people who were detained will hear later Sunday whether they will be held in custody longer. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.
Jean-Pascal Thoreau, spokesman for the federal prosecutor's office in Belgium, said the arrests at the Belgian border came after a car with Belgian license plates was seen close to the Bataclan theater in Paris on Friday night, one of the places where victims were killed.
He said it was a rental vehicle and police organized several raids in the Molenbeek neighborhood in Brussels on Saturday.
Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said all seven suicide attackers wore identical explosives vests.
Officials said the death toll has gone up to 129, including one American, and 352 people were injured in the attacks.
