Chocolate-covered pretzels? Sure. Chocolate-covered potato chips? No surprise. But chocolate covered French fries? Fast-food fans will either love or hate the idea.
The masterminds behind the Golden Arches announced Tuesday what they call a "tasty twist" on their most popular menu item: McDonald’s classic fries drizzled in two types of chocolate sauces.
The dish — to be debuted in Japan next week — will be drenched in both cacao-flavored chocolate and white milk chocolate for a combination that "creates wonderful salty and sweet harmonious taste," the company wrote in Tuesday's announcement.
Unfortunately, the U.S. will have to wait for the "McChoco Potato." The new menu item will only McDonald's customers in Japan, with a country-wide rollout beginning next week.
This isn’t the first time McDonald’s Japan has dressed up its traditional side dish.
In years past, Japanese restaurants offered the "Shaka Shaka Potato" topped with cheese sauce, bacon or both. Now that's a loaded-fries combo Americans could get behind.
