2 Men Still Missing After Gravel Pit Collapses in Mississippi
The search and recovery effort continues for two men who were buried when a Mississippi gravel pit collapsed Friday. Family for both missing men have identified them as Emmitt Shorter and James “Dee” Hemphill.
Crews are attempting to remove tons of mud, sand and gravel that fell on the two men and the heavy equipment they were working on. Officials believe the men are buried 10 to 15 feet deep.
“The biggest challenge is the fact that this is something that no one has never seen happen before and that is challenging because no one knows how to attack to accomplish the goal,” said Emergency Management Director Randle Drane.
