Police were asking the public to avoid the area east of Cal State Northridge campus as they searched for a gunman suspected in a shooting that left two critically wounded Sunday.
A report of three shots fired came in at about 8 a.m. in the 9800 block of Zelzah Avenue, near Lassen Street.
Officers were told that three men were fighting in an apartment when residents heard screams.
Police discovered a man who had been battered, and took one person into custody.
Three men were taken to the hospital: a 25-year-old and 27-year-old who had been shot and critically wounded, and another man in his 20s, according to Los Angeles Fire Department's Margaret Stewart.
They set up a perimeter to search for the gunman northeast of the college campus.
Police were asking the public to avoid the area just east of the Cal State Northridge campus. The perimeter is bounded by Zelzah Avenue on the west, Lassen Street on the north, White Oak Avenue on the east, and Superior Street on the south.
