Los Angeles officials are reminding residents that they have a few options for properly disposing of their Christmas trees.
City officials say the preferred method is to remove the decorations and stand, cut the tree into pieces and place it in their green yard-trimming bin for weekly collection.
Those who are unable to cut and place their tree in their green bin may leave it at the curb on their weekly collection day.
The city also provides drop-off locations that can be found here.
The recycled trees are saved from ending up in a landfill and are turned into mulch and compost to be used by residents and city staff.
The county of Los Angeles contracts with waste haulers serving the unincorporated areas to provide Christmas tree recycling services to residences and businesses. More information on the County's Christmas Tree recycling program is available by calling 1-888-253-2652, or by visiting this site.
