Officers were dispatched at 11:51 p.m. Saturday to the 2300 block of West Saint Gertrude Place, and found the boy with several gunshot wounds, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

Paramedics rushed the teen to an area hospital in critical condition where he later died.

Gonzalez's family said he wanted to become a professional boxer and couldn't believe his life was cut short.

Witnesses described seeing three hooded men and two other men in a dark colored vehicle.

Santa Ana police said it is now a homicide investigation. They believe the suspects are gang members, but said Gonzalez was not a gang member.
