The burning home was vacant at the time of the fire, but firefighters found a dog in the back of the property

Firefighters found a loose dog in back of a burning South Los Angeles house and reunited the animal with the owner Wednesday Nov. 11, 2015.

Firefighters reunited a dog and owner Wednesday morning after finding the animal behind a burning house in South Los Angeles.

The fire on both levels of the two-story house in the 1000 block of West 46th Street was reported at about 7 a.m. Fire quickly engulfed the 1,410-square-foot building and caused the roof to collapse.

No injuries were reported. The house was vacant at the time of the fire, but firefighters saved a dog found in the back of the home, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"The dog was loose, but they were able to get the dog back to the owner unharmed," said LAFD Batallion Chief Percy Jones. "No injuries to firefighters, no injuries to civilians, so it was done really well."

Sixty-three firefighters battled the fire from the ground and from a nearby residential building roof and knocked down the flames in 31 minutes.

Details regarding a cause were not immediately available.
