A special education aide at Ulysses S. Grant High School in the San Fernando Valley was arrested on suspicion of possession of child pornography.
Grigor Agdayan, 42, of North Hollywood was taken into custody on Wednesday, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera, who said the investigation was conducted by the LAPD's Juvenile Division.
Agdayan was released Thursday on $20,000 bail and has an April 26 court date, but no charges had apparently been filed against him as of Friday afternoon.
In letter sent to students, which was obtained by the Los Angeles Daily News, school Principal Pamela Damonte said Agdayan was arrested for "alleged sexual misconduct ... (that) occurred off campus and did not involve any students."
"The school and the Los Angeles Unified School District take these allegations very seriously and will fully cooperate with the police investigation," Damonte wrote. She said the district "will provide intervention counselors to work with students who might be impacted by the arrest and removal of Mr. Agdayan."
Agdayan has been "reassigned" from the Valley Glen campus, school officials told the Daily News, which reported that he was hired by the LAUSD in mid-2000 and has been working as a permanent special education aide at Grant High since March 2001.
