The Clippers made their second trade of the week today, this time dealing with the Toronto Raptors to acquire Hassan Adams. L.A. sent a conditional second round draft pick to Toronto, and received cash considerations in return along with Adams.
If this deal sounds familiar, it should: it's basically exactly what the Clippers gave to Denver in the deal that brought them Cheikh Samb. The cash portion is the Raptors agreeing to pay the remainder of Adams' salary for the season, which means that L.A. gets him for free -- minus the conditional pick of course.
Adams didn't play much in Toronto, and it looks like he may not play at all in Los Angeles. An interesting wrinkle in this deal appears to be that the Clippers waived Adams just hours after dealing for him. The Raptors got under the league's luxury tax threshold with the move, while the Clips did them a favor for some cash. No harm no foul, and now Adams' services are available to any team surfing the waiver wire.
