The NFL is planning on relocating a team or two to Los Angeles as early as the 2015 or 2016 offseason, NBC Sports reported Sunday.
Citing a league source, the report says the teams being considered are the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers – all of whom previously called LA home.
The teams would play at the Rose Bowl or the LA Memorial Coliseum, pending the construction of a new stadium. Possible sites for a venue include the AEG project at LA Live in downtown, a 60-acre parking lot at Hollywood Park purchased by Rams owner Stan Kroenke, Chavez Ravine and a couple of locations that have not yet been publicly disclosed, the report says.
Developer AEG has asked city leaders for six more months to try to hammer out a deal to build a football stadium.
The Raiders’ lease in Oakland expires after the 2014 season, the Rams can say goodbye to St. Louis without penalty and the Chargers can leave San Diego by paying a relocation fee that gets smaller every year.
It's been nearly two decades since an NFL team has played in LA.
