One Killed, Suspected Attacker Hospitalized in Long Beach Stabbing

The attack occurred after two men left a train at Long Beach's Wardlow Station

A man was stabbed to death at or near a Blue Line stop in Long Beach early Friday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

The stabbing was reported at about 2 a.m. at or near the Wardlow Station in the 3400 block of North Pacific Place. The Blue Line station was closed for the investigation.

The victim died at the scene, according to authorities. The individual's identity was withheld pending notification of kin.

The circumstances leading up to the stabbing were unclear, but authorities said two men exited the train at the Wardlow Station. One of the men attacked the other, authorities said.

The attacker left as deputies arrived and was found walking on Magnolia Avenue with self-inflicted wounds, according to authorities.

Details regarding the attacker's description were not immediately available, but authorities said he fled on foot and used other minor lethal weapons before being taken into custody. 

Northbound trains were be turned back at Metro's Willow Station and southbound trains were at the Del Amo stop during the investigation. Bus bridges ran from the Del Amo, Wardlow and Willow stations.

Full service resumed Friday afternoon at 3:15 p.m.
