Dozens of Students Stung by Bees in Palmdale Area

A swarm of bees stung dozens of students in Palmdale. Ted Chen reports for the NBC4 News at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017.

Dozens of students were stung by a swarm of bees that descended Tuesday on Palmdale High School, sending at least 50 of them to hospitals for evaluation and prompting a partial evacuation of the campus, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported.

Paramedics were sent to the campus in the 2100 block of East Avenue R about 12:10 p.m., a dispatcher said.

The total number of students who were stung was not immediately available.

The dispatcher said there were no reports of anyone going into shock.

Firefighters used water hoses in an effort to disperse the bees, which apparently became agitated when a hive was inadvertertently disturbed.
