Carjacking Suspect Allegedly Poses as Rideshare Driver, Kidnaps and Sexually Assaults Woman

A Moreno Valley man is suspected of carjacking a vehicle, posing as a rideshare driver and then kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in Temecula, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Luis Fernando Alba, was arrested on Monday for an alleged carjacking of a vehicle that he allegedly used to kidnap and sexually assault a woman on Sunday, July 14, the RCSD said in a statement.

The carjacking allegedly occurred on Saturday, July 13, authorities said.

The victim was waiting for a rideshare service driver at a gas station in Pala in San Diego County Sunday when the suspect allegedly stated he was her rideshare driver, according to the sheriff's department. After the woman entered the vehicle, she realized that the suspect was not a rideshare driver and asked to be let out of the vehicle, authorities said in a statement.

The suspect allegedly refused to release the woman and sexually assaulted the victim in the city of Temecula, according to the RCSD. The woman was able to escape from the vehicle on Temecula Parkway and immediately called 911 around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said.

Alba was arrested on Monday in Moreno Valley, authorities said.
