Utility crews worked overnight to restore power after outages that affected tens of thousands of customers over the weekend.
About 15,000 customers were without power Monday morning, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Nearly 30,000 customers were without power Sunday morning.
The hardest-hit community was Koreatown, where 4,859 customers were without power Sunday morning during summer's first heat wave.
The power system has been strained since unrelenting heat hit Southern California, bringing with it dangerous triple-digit temperatures.
The consequent usage of power for cooling purposes caused the electric grid to exceed 5,700 megawatts on Saturday, making it the 2nd-highest weekend day in LA history, according to the LADWP. That followed Friday's peak electricity usage, which reached 6,256 megawatts and set a new record for a July day.
On Sunday afternoon, LADWP informed NBC4 that approximately 26,500 customers were still without power with crews having restored power to roughly 57,000 customers with crews working 16-hour shifts over what would normally be considered a holiday weekend.
